The cartoon is the result of a combination of circumstances: My daughter had just visited an art exhibit new to the Portland, OR area of a visiting German collection, titled "Hesse: A Princely Collection", that included a madonna she was quite taken with, by the German artist, Holbein. The title of the painting is The Madonna with Basel Mayor Jakob Meyer and His Family. It's often simply referred to as the Holbein Madonna. My poor eyesight rendered it the Holstein Madonna and Hil nearly died laughing. thinking of this image.
